Quench not the Spirit.
“1 Thessalonians 5:19′
The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity, who abides with and within all believers. Although there is controversy as to whether He dwells in an individual upon salvation or by baptism, we know from Scripture that He is present with us. He is the Father’s promise to all believers and will help, teach, and direct us to do the will of God if we give Him unrestricted access in our lives. The marvelous righteous Word of God is filled with wonderful testimonials of our Lord Jesus Christ and of the apostles because they allowed the Spirit to work in and through them.
The above verse admonishes us not to quench the Holy Spirit, in other words, it means not to suppress, stifle, or put out. Within the context of the verse, it means believers should not hinder the flow and the ministry of the Holy Spirit in their lives and even within their local churches. The Holy Spirit, according to the verse above, is likened to a fire that should be fanned to flames and allowed to achieve God’s will, not to be extinguished or doused by human traditions and doctrines, fear, godless and sinful lifestyles, pride, and so on. When we allow God to interact in our lives and fill us, we will be controlled by Him and thus giving Him unhindered access to work in our lives.
God’s Holy Spirit gives warmth, light and burning zeal to the hearts of believers. But it is possible to quench His fire in us by sin, neglect, prayerlessness and ingratitude, as we can read in “Ephesians 4:30′
We should not quench the Spirit in our lives. Instead, we should fan the flames of the Holy Spirit, allowing Him to work in us and through us. When we give God unrestricted access, our lives will be totally transformed.
Let us pray;
Dear Lord, almighty Heavenly Father, I thank You for Your promise to pour out Your Spirit upon all flesh. I am grateful for the help and support I have received from the ministry of the Holy Spirit in my life. I confess and repent of any actions through which I have hindered Your operation in my life, and I ask for Your forgiveness for my sins. May I depend solely on You as my source of power and strength, I ask for Your help in doing Your will every facet of my life. Thank You dear Lord, almighty dear Heavenly Father for working in and through me throughout You’re truth fulfilling Holy Spirit., I pray this throughout the mighty glorious fulfilling name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
The LORD bless you,
and keep you. The LORD make His face shine on you, and be gracious to you. The LORD lift up His countenance on you, and give you peace. “Numbers 6:24-26′
