My son, despise not the chastening of the LORD; neither be weary of his correction:
“Proverbs 3:11′
You can trust that God will discipline His people for their good and His glory. This is because He guides and removes obstacles for them, as well as provides abundantly for them. In this verse Solomon instructs his student not to despise the discipline of God or to grow weary of His reproof. When we despise the Lord’s discipline, it implies that we reject or minimize it in some way.
As a loving father disciplines his beloved son, the chastening of the Lord should never be compared with a judge passing judgment on a criminal. The Lord’s chastening is always carried out in love and wisdom for our own good, in order that we might share in the holiness He has bestowed on us. As God knows what He has planned for each of us, His chastening rod ensures we do not miss out on the best preparations He has available for us.
The Lord’s correction is always carried out with love, regardless of the form it takes and no matter how much pain and hurt we may experience. Therefore, let us not despise His chastening, whether it is to correct a disobedient heart or to perfect an obedient walk. Instead, let us embrace it for our own good and for the glory of God.
Let us pray:
Dear Lord, almighty Heavenly Father, help me to become more disciplined and spiritual mature. Thank You Lord that You are concerned about my spiritual maturity. I ask that You will chasten me in love in order to help me grow in grace and be a partaker of Your holiness. Please grant me an understanding heart so that I will be able to accept Your correction gracefully. Please help me better know and use the situations in my life to become more like You. Thank You dear Lord, almighty Heavenly Father. I pray this throughout the mighty glorious, fulfilling name of Jesus Christ. Amen.
Much LoVe, JoY, Peace and Blessings through Jesus Christ, our almighty, wonderful, infinite loving, glorious, dear Saviour and Redeemer, in who we faithfully abide, trust, believe, and abundantly do receive throughout His marvelous righteous Word and His truth fulfilling Holy Spirit.
