Matthew 5:17

Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy, but to fulfil. “Matthew 5:17

After Jesus gained wonders through His healing miracles and compelling teaching, some hostile religious leaders began to falsely claim that He was teaching a different law from what God had given to the nation of Israel. He states that his intent is not to discard the law or the prophets. The words of these prophets were not disregarded by Jesus; instead, they were fulfilled by His every action and word.

Throughout His life and death, Jesus met every single demand of the holy Law of God. He was born under the law, lived a sinless life under the law, and was crucified under the law. The purpose of Jesus’ coming was not to abolish the Law, but to fulfill its righteous requirements. In this way, He became the only one who was capable of satisfying its perfect requirements, making Him qualified to become our sin-Substitute, our Saviour and Redeemer.

All who believe in Jesus are now free from the curse of the Law and under God’s gift of grace. This is because Jesus willingly paid the enormous price of sin for you and for me. Upon becoming a born-again believer, we die in Christ and are rendered dead to the Law, eliminating the fearful curse of the Law and its eternal consequences for all eternity. It was Jesus death that enabled us to live our lives through Him.

Let us pray:

Dear Lord, almighty Heavenly Father, You are the God of faithfulness and perfect holiness. With a righteous hand, You reign over us, exhorting us to attain purity and perfection, for Your heavenly kingdom is free of sinfulness. I confess that I am a guilty sinner who deserves punishment for my sin. It was in Your grace that You allowed the Lord Jesus to live a sinless life and take my punishment for my sins. Thank You dear Lord almighty Heavenly Father, for removing the curse of the Law and releasing me from Your righteous condemnation through Jesus’ life and death. I pray this throughout the mighty glorious, fulfilling name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Much LoVe, JoY, Peace and Blessings through Jesus Christ, our almighty, wonderful, infinite loving, glorious, dear Lord, Saviour and Redeemer, in who we faithfully abide, trust, believe, and abundantly do receive throughout His marvelous righteous Word and His truth fulfilling Holy Spirit.
