Welcome to a another Bible Study of Revelation, Chapter 6:
Let’s reason and take an inspiring verse by verse look at “Revelation 6:1-17”, followed with a Summary and Prayer.
Vers 1: “And I saw when the Lamb opened one of the seals, and I heard, as it were the noise of thunder, one of the four beasts saying, Come and see.”
This verse introduces the breaking of the seals by the Lamb, JESUS CHRIST, who initiates events leading to the end times. The voice like thunder signifies the importance and authority of what is to come.
Verse 2: “And I saw, and behold a white horse: and he that sat on him had a bow; and a crown was given unto him: and he went forth conquering, and to conquer.”
The rider on the white horse is often interpreted as a symbol of conquest or peace. The bow represents power and the crown indicates authority. This figure is seen by some as a conqueror or a representation of the Antichrist.
Verse 3: “And when he had opened the second seal, I heard the second beast say, Come and see.”
This indicates the opening of the second seal and the continuing revelation of what is to happen. Each seal brings forth new information about GOD’S judgment.
Verse 4: “And there went out another horse that was red: and power was given to him that sat thereon to take peace from the earth, and that they should kill one another: and there was given unto him a great sword.”
The red horse symbolizes war and bloodshed. The loss of peace and the ability to kill one another show the devastation that comes with conflict on a global scale.
Verse 5: “And when he had opened the third seal, I heard the third beast say, Come and see. And I beheld, and lo a black horse; and he that sat on him had a pair of balances in his hand.”
The black horse represents famine or scarcity. The balances symbolize economic difficulties or the need to measure out limited resources.
Verse 6: “And I heard a voice in the midst of the four beasts say, A measure of wheat for a penny, and three measures of barley for a penny; and see thou hurt not the oil and the wine.
This illustrates the severe inflation and dire conditions of famine, where basic food becomes extremely expensive. The mention of oil and wine suggests that some luxuries remain unaffected, highlighting inequalities.
Verse 7: “And when he had opened the fourth seal, I heard the voice of the fourth beast say, Come and see.”
The opening of the fourth seal continues the apocalyptic narrative, marking the progression of GOD’S judgment.
Verse 8: “And I looked, and behold a pale horse: and his name that sat on him was Death, and Hell followed with him. And power was given unto them over the fourth part of the earth, to kill with sword, and with hunger, and with death, and with the beasts of the earth.”
The pale horse, often associated with death, signifies the culmination of the previous judgments. The grim statistics show mass death resulting from various causes, emphasizing GOD’S judgment on the world.
Verse 9: “And when he had opened the fifth seal, I saw under the altar the souls of them that were slain for the word of GOD, and for the testimony which they held.”
This reveals the martyrs who suffered for their faith. The altar signifies their sacrifice and faithfulness, and it underscores the cost of discipleship for Christians throughout history.
Verse 10: “And they cried with a loud voice, saying, How long, O LORD, holy and true, dost thou not judge and avenge our blood on them that dwell on the earth?”
The martyrs’ cry seeks justice and vindication for their suffering, highlighting the theme of divine justice in GOD’S timing.
Verse 11: “And white robes were given unto every one of them; and it was said unto them, that they should rest yet for a little season, until their fellow servants also and their brethren, that should be killed as they were, should be fulfilled.”
The granting of white robes signifies purity and victory in Christ. They are assured that GOD’S plan includes the completion of their supporters and fellow believers.
Verse 12: “And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood.”
The sixth seal introduces cosmic disturbances, underscoring divine judgment affecting the natural order. This could symbolize a supernatural shaking of the earth and heavens.
Verse 13: “And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.”
The imagery of falling stars further illustrates the severity of the upheaval in the universe, indicating catastrophic events affecting both the earth and heavens.
Verse 14: “And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places.”
This evokes a dramatic, apocalyptic scene, emphasizing immense change and the unravelling of the created order as GOD prepares for His final judgments.
Verse 15: “And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains.”
The reaction of humanity to GOD’S mighty acts reflects fear and panic, regardless of social status. It showcases the helplessness of mankind when faced with divine judgment.
Verse 16: “And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb.”
This plea for protection from the wrath of GOD indicates the ultimate recognition of GOD’S power and judgment from all levels of society.
Verse 17: “For the great day of His wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?”
This final verse emphasizes the seriousness of the judgment and the question of who can withstand such divine wrath. It is a sobering reminder of the accountability of every person to GOD.
Let’s summarize Revelation Chapter 6:
“Revelation 6:1-17” depicts the unfolding of GOD’S judgment through the opening of the seven seals by the Lamb, revealing the catastrophic events that will lead to the end of days. The first four seals introduce various forms of suffering (conquest, war, famine, and death). The fifth seal shows the martyrs who have died for their faith, calling for justice. The sixth seal presents cosmic disturbances and the fear of humanity in the face of divine wrath. Overall, this passage emphasizes GOD’S sovereignty and justice, as well as the reality of judgment that will come upon the earth.
