“Be still, and know that I am GOD.”(Psalm 46:10)
The
This verse of Psalm 46:10 stands as a powerful reminder of GOD’S sovereignty and the comfort He offers in times of trouble. The instruction to “be still” reflects GOD’S desire for His people to find peace in His presence, irrespective of external circumstances.
The Origins of Fear – And understanding the Source of Fear:
Fear is a reality that every human faces, but it is not a part of our original design. The roots of our fears trace back to significant moments in Scripture.
1.The Fall in the Garden of Eden:
The very first introduction of fear into human existence came through the deception of Satan in the Garden of Eden. In Genesis 3, the serpent misled Eve into questioning GOD’S goodness and His command, ultimately leading to disobedience to Eve and Adam.
The Lie of Vulnerability:
satan suggested that GOD was withholding something good from Adam and Eve, causing them to feel vulnerable, uncertain, and ultimately fearful of their place in GOD’S creation. This instilled a sense of insecurity that humanity continues to grapple with today.
Separation from GOD:
Through disobedience, Adam and Eve lost their intimate fellowship with GOD. This separation from the Creator naturally leads to fear fear of the unknown, fear of judgment, and fear of being apart from His protection and guidance.
2. Human Nature and Sin:
Post Eden, fear has become intertwined with our human experience. The fallen nature of humanity means we often react out of fear rather than faith.
Fear of Judgment:
With sin came the awareness of guilt and the fear of divine judgment (Romans 3:23). This awareness can manifest as anxiety about our worthiness before GOD.
Fear of Failure:
The fear of inadequacy and failure often stems from a desire to control outcomes. When we strive for perfection or to meet expectations, we can easily become overwhelmed by fear of not measuring up.
GOD’S Response to Fear – and The Comfort of Stillness:
“Be still…” This divine command is not merely about physical stillness but signifies a profound mental and spiritual posture before GOD.
Finding Refuge:
In our stillness, we can find refuge from our fears. Psalm 91:2 states,
“I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my GOD; in Him will I trust.”
Recognizing GOD as our refuge allows us to let go of fear and anxiety.
The Power of Quietness:
Stillness provides us the opportunity to hear GOD’S voice. In moments of despair, taking the time to be quiet and listen for GOD’S guidance, can restore our souls, and brings us back to the true nature to live a free life that is fulfilled with GOD’S love, joy and peace.
The Assurance of Knowing our almighty, sovereign, reigning GOD:
“and know that I am GOD.”
Knowing GOD fosters a deeper relationship built on trust, counteracting the fears instilled by the enemy.
Understanding GOD’S Character:
When we know GOD, we understand that He is loving, compassionate, and all powerful. Isaiah 43:1 reminds us;
“Fear not: for I have redeemed thee, I have called thee by thy name; thou art mine.”
Intimacy Through Relationship:
An intimate relationship with GOD involves trusting His divine plans over our fears. The more we engage with His marvelous righteous Word the more we internalize the truth of His goodness, that He desires for all of us so abundantly to receive.
Walking in GOD’S Ancient Ways – and the Call to Righteousness and Faithfulness:
Walking in “ancient ways” involves returning to the foundational truths that GOD has set forth in His marvelous, righteous Word.
1.Trust in GOD’S marvelous righteous Word:
The Bible serves as a comprehensive guide, helping us to navigate life’s uncertainties.
Proverbs 30:5 states, “Every word of GOD is pure: He is a shield unto them that put their trust in Him.”
while we trust in GOD’S Word, it will act as an great defense mechanism against fear.
2. Practicing Spiritual Disciplines:
Engaging in prayer, worship, and Scripture study will deepens our trust and reduces the anxiety that comes from fear.
Our Prayer Request to GOD:
Philippians 4:6-7 admonishes us not to be anxious but to present our requests to GOD in prayer, allowing His peace to guard our hearts and minds.
Meditative Focus:
Meditating on Bibical Scripture verses imbeds GOD’S truth in our hearts, and pushing out our fear. Psalm 119:11 declares, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.”
3.Fellowship and Encouragement:
Engaging with a community of believers can provide support and wisdom in times of fear. Hebrews 10:24-25 encourages us to stimulate one another toward love and good works, highlighting the importance of our shared faith.
Let’s Summarize this Bible Study together:
Psalm 46:10 serves as both a command and a comfort, inviting us to find stillness in GOD amidst our fears. The origins of fear trace back to the deception introduced by satan in the Garden of Eden, creating vulnerabilities that plague humanity. Yet, GOD offers us peace through knowing Him, and the ancient paths laid out in Scripture guide us back to trust and righteousness.
Let us humble ourselves, and lift our prayer request before GOD’S Holy throne-room:
Dear LORD, almighty HEAVENLY FATHER, We thank You for Your abiding presence and the assurance found in Your Word. Help us to confront our fears with the understanding that they stem from deception rather than Your truth. Guide us as we strive to be still and to trust in You wholeheartedly. May we walk in Your ancient ways and find refuge in Your promises. Thank You dear LORD, almighty HEAVENLY FATHER’, hear our prayers, throughout the mighty, glorious, fulfilling name, of JESUS CHRIST, AMEN!
Much LoVe, JoY, Peace and Blessings to You, through JESUS CHRIST, our almighty, fulfilling dear LORD, SAVIOUR and REDEEMER!
