Psalms 81:1-16

Welcome to a new Bible Study of Psalms 81:1-16:

Let’s reason and take an inspiring verse by vers look, on the Bibical study, scripture references below, followed with a summary, and uplifting Prayer before GOD’S Holy throne-room!

Verse 1: “Sing aloud unto GOD our strength: make a joyful noise unto the GOD of Jacob.”

This verse opens with a call to worship, emphasizing joy and celebration. The reference to “GOD our strength” highlights GOD’S power and ability to support His people.

Verse 2: “Take a psalm, and bring hither the timbrel, the pleasant harp with the sultry.”

Here the psalmist encourages the use of musical instruments in worship. The timbrel and harp symbolize heartfelt expression in praise, showing that worship is to be both vocal and instrumental.

Verse 3: “Blow up the trumpet in the new moon, in the time appointed, on our solemn feast day.”

The trumpet signifies important announcements and is used in celebrations. This verse indicates the significance of festivals in Christian tradition, particularly highlighting the importance of times set apart for worship

Verse 4: “For this was a statute for Israel, and a law of the GOD of Jacob.”

GOD’S statutes are grounded in His holiness and righteousness. Observing these laws signifies obedience and reverence to GOD’S commands.

Verse 5: “This he ordained in Joseph for a testimony; when he went out through the land of Egypt: where I heard a language that I understood not.”

Referencing Joseph’s role in Egypt serves as a memorial of GOD’S guidance and redemption. The mention of an “unknown language” underscores Israel’s identity and the distinct relationship with GOD.

Verse 6: “I removed his shoulder from the burden: his hands were delivered from the pots.”

GOD’S deliverance from burdens speaks to His compassion. This verse celebrates liberation from oppression and heavy labor, reminding believers of freedom in CHRIST!

Verse 7: “Thou callest in trouble, and I delivered thee; I answered thee in the secret place of thunder: I proved thee at the waters of Meribah. Selah.”

GOD’S faithfulness is evident in times of trouble. His response in “the secret place of thunder” signifies divine authority, and the reference to Meribah recalls Israel’s testing and GOD’S provision, reinforcing His commitment to His people.

Verse 8: “Hear, O my people, and I will testify unto thee: O Israel, if thou wilt hearken unto me.”

A direct appeal is made to the people to listen. The psalmist presents the desire for an intimate and obedient relationship between GOD and Israel.

Verse 9: “There shall no strange god be in thee; neither shalt thou worship any strange god.”

This verse emphasizes the necessity of exclusive worship to GOD. It warns against idolatry, asserting the importance of fidelity in the relationship with GOD.

Verse 10:”I am the LORD thy GOD, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt: open thy mouth wide, and I will fill it.”

GOD identifies Himself as the redeemer. The imagery of opening one’s mouth wide signifies trust in GOD’S provision, illustrating His generosity and willingness to provide abundantly.

Verse 11: “But my people would not hearken to my voice; and Israel would none of me.”

This verse laments disobedience and the refusal of GOD’S people to listen. It highlights the pain of divine desire for His people’s faithfulness.

Verse 12: “So I gave them up unto their own hearts’ lust: and they walked in their own counsels.”

GOD’S response to Israel’s disobedience is a sort of judgment through separation, allowing them to pursue their own desires, which leads to their downfall.

Verse 13: “O that my people had hearkened unto me, and Israel had walked in my ways!”

There is a heartfelt yearning for Israel’s return to GOD’S ways. It reflects GOD’S desire for familial and obedient relationships rather than mere ritualistic worship.

Verse 14: “I should soon have subdued their enemies, and turned my hand against their adversaries.”

This verse conveys the promise of victory and protection if the people would remain faithful. GOD’S power would work on their behalf against their enemies.

Verse 15: “The haters of the LORD should have submitted themselves unto him: but their time should have endured for ever.”

This emphasizes the consequences of rebellion against GOD. If Israel had remained faithful, their opposition would have been subdued, highlighting GOD’S sovereignty.

Verse 16: “He should have fed them also with the finest of the wheat: and with honey out of the rock should I have satisfied thee.”

The text imagery here depicts abundance and satisfaction that GOD desires to provide. “Honey out of the rock” signifies unexpected blessings and delights from hardship.
