Proverbs 17:17

A friend loveth at all times, and a brother is born for adversity. “Proverbs 17:17′

As life gets busy, staying connected with friends becomes difficult until we need help. When was the last time you messaged a friend to see how they are doing just because you were thinking of them? When was the last time you offered a friend help even though it was inconvenient for you? We are reminded in this verse of Soloman that a true friend does not just love when it’s convenient for him. A true friend loves at all times, even when it’s hard.

Jesus demonstrated the greatest of all love when He gave up His own life for us. His love for us is unconditional. As followers of Jesus, we should do the same for our brothers and sisters in Christ.

The act of loving at all times does not imply that we should ignore sin or abuse from others. That’s not what Jesus did. It is still necessary to hold people accountable for their actions and for the consequences that follow. When you love someone at all times, you show compassion, provide support, put their needs first even if they don’t do the same for you.

Challenge yourself today to show Jesus love to those around you. Be willing to push yourself beyond what seems comfortable and to really be there for those you care about. When you do that, you will be pleasantly surprised by how good it makes you feel.

Let us pray:

Dear LORD, almighty Heavenly Father, thank You for Your unconditional love, and thank You for the dear friends that You have brought into my life. I confess that when life gets busy, I sometimes overlook the needs of friends and focus just on myself. Just as You are always available to me in times of need, I pray that You will help me to be available to others in their time of need as well. Thank you dear Lord, almighty Heavenly Father.
I pray this throughout the mighty glorious, fulfilling name of Jesus Christ. Amen.

Much love, joy, peace and blessings in Jesus Christ, our LORD, Saviour and Redeemer.

  1. Yes, I agree. We must do more than just pray for our friends to stay connected with them. It’s our responsibility to be the kind of friend we want others to be to us. It’s not up to God to keep the phone lines open! 🙂
