LORD, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee. Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties. Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities. When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet. Our bones are scattered at the grave’s mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth wood upon the earth. But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the LORD: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute. Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity. Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal escape. “Psalms 141:1-10“
“Psalm 141″ is a powerful and stirring prayer that King David wrote, expressing his trust in GOD in the midst of adversity. As we study this psalm, we can learn valuable lessons about the power of prayer, the importance of relying on GOD, and the need for righteousness in our lives.
The psalm begins with a plea for GOD to hear the psalmist’s cry for help. David asks GOD to listen to his voice and to respond to his prayer. This sets the stage for the rest of the psalm, as David pours out his heart before GOD.
In verse 2, David asks GOD to let his prayer be like incense before Him, and the lifting up of his hands as an evening sacrifice. Here, David is using the imagery of the temple sacrifices to express the sincerity and devotion of his prayer. He is not just going through the motions, but is truly seeking GOD with all his heart.
David also asks for GOD’S help in guarding his mouth, so that he may not speak wickedness. This shows David’s awareness of the power of words and the potential for harm that comes from speaking without wisdom. It’s a reminder for us to be mindful of our own speech and to seek GOD’S help in controlling our words.
In verses 5-7, David expresses his trust in GOD’S ability to deliver him from his enemies. He compares his enemies to rocks that have been shattered and scattered, unable to harm him. This shows David’s unwavering faith in GOD’S power and protection. It also serves as a reminder to us that we can trust in GOD’S ability to rescue us from any situation.
The Psalm ends with a plea for GOD to keep the psalmist from the snares that the wicked have laid for him. David knows that he is vulnerable to temptation and asks for GOD’S help in avoiding the traps that the enemy has set for him. This is a powerful prayer for deliverance and protection.
As we reflect on “Psalm 141“, we are reminded of the importance of prayer in our lives. It is through prayer that we can pour out our hearts to GOD, seek His guidance and protection, and express our trust in His power. This psalm also challenges us to be mindful of our words and to seek GOD’Shelp in controlling our speech. Finally, it encourages us to trust in GOD’S ability to deliver us from our enemies and to keep us from harm.
Let us Pray:
Dear LORD, almighty HEAVENLY FATHER, we come before you with humble hearts, just as David did in Psalm 141. We ask that You would hear our prayers and respond to our cries for help. Help us to approach You with sincerity and devotion, just as David did. We ask that our prayers would be like incense before You, pleasing and acceptable in your sight.
Dear LORD, almighty HEAVENLY FATHER, we ask for Your help in guarding our mouths, so that we may not speak wickedness. Help us to be mindful of the power of our words and to seek Your guidance in controlling our speech. Keep us from saying things that harm others and lead us to speak words of life and encouragement. We also ask for Your protection from our enemies and from the snares that the wicked have set for us. Just as David trusted in Your mighty power to shatter his enemies and keep him safe, we trust in Your ability to deliver us from harm. Keep us safe from the traps that the enemy has laid for us and lead us in paths of righteousness. We thank You, dear LORD, almighty HEAVENLY FATHER, for the lessons we can learn from Psalm 141, and we ask that You would help us to apply them to our lives. May our prayers be pleasing to You, may our words bring glory to Your name, and may we trust in Your power to deliver and protect us. We pray this throughout the mighty, glorious, fulfilling name of JESUS CHRIST. Amen!
Much LoVe, JoY, Peace and Blessings to You, through JESUS CHRIST, our LORD, SAVIOUR and REDEEMER.
