Keep not thou silence, O GOD: hold not thy peace, and be not still, O GOD. For, lo, thine enemies make a tumult: and they that hate thee have lifted up the head. They have taken crafty counsel against thy people, and consulted against thy hidden ones. They have said, Come, and let us cut them off from being a nation; that the name of Israel may be no more in remembrance. For they have consulted together with one consent: they are confederate against thee: The tabernacles of Edom, and the Ishmaelites; of Moab, and the Hagarenes; Gebal, and Ammon, and Amalek; the Philistines with the inhabitants of Tyre; Assur also is joined with them: they have holpen the children of Lot. Selah. Do unto them as unto the Midianites; as to Sisera, as to Jabin, at the brook of Kison: Which perished at En-dor: they became as dung for the earth. Make their nobles like Oreb, and like Zeeb: yea, all their princes as Zebah, and as Zalmunna: Who said, Let us take to ourselves the houses of GOD in possession.
O my GOD, make them like a wheel; as the stubble before the wind. As the fire burneth a wood, and as the flame setteth the mountains on fire; So persecute them with thy tempest, and make them afraid with thy storm. Fill their faces with shame; that they may seek thy name, O LORD. Let them be confounded and troubled for ever; yea, let them be put to shame, and perish: That men may know that thou, whose name alone is JEHOVAH, art the most high over all the earth.
“Psalms 83:1-18“
“Psalms 83” is a psalm of Asaph, a leader of worship in the time of King David, and it is a prayer for help in a time of national crisis. The psalmist expresses a deep longing for GOD to intervene on behalf of His people and to bring justice and deliverance.
The psalm begins with a call to GOD to not remain silent and to not be indifferent to the threats and plots of the enemies of Israel. It is a prayer for GOD to arise and to defend His people from the nations that seek to destroy them. The psalmist acknowledges that the enemies of Israel are conspiring against GOD’S people, and he pleads for GOD to confound their plans and to bring judgment upon them.
The psalmist then lists the nations that are allied against Israel, including the descendants of Lot, the Ishmaelites, Moab, Hagrites, Gebal, Ammon, Amalek, Philistia, and the people of Tyre. He describes them as a confederacy, united in their desire to wipe out the nation of Israel and to take possession of the land.
In the second half of the psalm, the psalmist prays for GOD to make the nations recognize His power and to humble them. He asks for GOD to pursue and terrify them, to fill their faces with shame, and to make them seek His name. The psalmist longs for the nations to know that GOD alone is the Most High over all the earth.
The psalm ends with a call for GOD to manifest His power and to show Himself as the ruler over all the nations. The psalmist expresses his confidence that GOD will answer his prayer and save His people.
Let us Pray:
Dear LORD, ALMIGHTY HEAVENLY FATHER, we come before You today with hearts full of trust and hope, just as the psalmist did in Psalms 83. We lift up to you the conflicts and crises that we face, both as individuals and as a nation. We acknowledge that our enemies are numerous, and we confess our need for Your intervention and deliverance. We pray that You would not be silent, but arise to defend and protect Your people. We ask for Your divine wisdom and guidance, that we may know how to navigate the challenges and threats that we face. We plead for Your mercy and Your justice to be manifest in our situation, that our enemies may be confounded and that Your power and authority may be known to all. We ask that You would humble the nations that seek to destroy us, that they may recognize Your sovereignty and seek Your name. May Your glory be revealed, and may Your kingdom come, both in our lives and in the world around us. We put our trust in You, knowing that You are the Most High over all the earth, and that You are able to do far more than we could ever ask or imagine. Thank you dear LORD, almighty HEAVENLY FATHER. We pray all these things throughout the mighty, glorious, fulfilling name of JESUS CHRIST. Amen!
Much LoVe, JoY, Peace and Blessings to You, through JESUS CHRIST, our LORD, SAVIOUR and REDEEMER.
