Romans Chapter 10

Welcome to the next Bible Study of Romans, Chapter 10:

Let’s reason and take an inspiring verse by verse look at “Romans 10:1-21“, followed with a Summary and Prayer.

Verse 1: “Brethren, my heart’s desire and prayer to GOD for Israel is, that they might be saved.”

Paul expresses his deep longing for the salvation of Israel, revealing his heart for his people. This sets the tone for the chapter, emphasizing the importance of prayer and desire for others salvation.

Verse 2: “For I bear them record that they have a zeal of GOD, but not according to knowledge.”

Paul acknowledges that the Israelites have a passionate devotion to GOD but lacks true understanding. This speaks to the danger of sincerity without accurate knowledge of GOD’S ways.

Verse 3: “For they being ignorant of GOD’S righteousness, and going about to establish their own righteousness, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of GOD.”

The Jews were trying to earn righteousness through the Law instead of accepting GOD’S righteousness through faith in CHRIST. This highlights the futility of self-righteousness.

Verse 4: “For CHRIST is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.”

CHRIST fulfills the law’s requirements (its purpose). Righteousness is now attainable through faith in CHRIST, emphasizing the transition from the law to grace.

Verse 5: “For Moses describeth the righteousness which is of the law, That the man which doeth those things shall live by them.”

Paul refers to Moses, indicating that the Law requires perfect obedience. Those who rely on the Law must comply with it entirely, an impossible task for sinful humanity.

Verse 6-7: “But the righteousness which is of faith speaketh on this wise, Say not in thine heart, Who shall ascend into heaven? (that is, to bring CHRIST down from above:) Or, Who shall descend into the deep? (that is, to bring up Christ again from the dead.)”

These verses emphasize that faith does not require impossible feats. It acknowledges the work of CHRIST already done, both in His coming to Earth and His resurrection.

Verse 8: “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;”

The message of salvation is accessible and near to everyone. It emphasizes that faith comes from hearing and internalizing the word of GOD.

Verse 9: “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the LORD JESUS, and shalt believe in thine heart that GOD hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.”

This verse outlines the fundamental steps of salvation: confession and faith. Acknowledging CHRIST as LORD and believing in His resurrection is crucial for salvation.

Verse 10: “For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.”

Here, Paul reinforces the connection between faith (heart) and confession (mouth). True belief results in righteousness, leading to verbal acknowledgment of faith.

Verse 11: “For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on Him shall not be ashamed.”

This is a promise from Scripture asserting that those who genuinely believe in CHRIST will not face disgrace or disappointment GOD honors those who trust Him.

Verse 12-13:
“For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same LORD over all is rich unto all that call upon Him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the LORD shall be saved.”

Salvation is available to everyone, regardless of ethnicity or background. It emphasizes the inclusivity of the Gospel, highlighting GOD’S abundant grace.

Verse 14: “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?”

This verse underscores the need for evangelism. It stresses the importance of hearing the Gospel message to facilitate belief and ultimately call upon the LORD.

Verse 15: “And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”

Paul highlights the necessity of sending preachers for the Gospel to reach the lost. The quote emphasizes how vital those who share the Gospel are in GOD’S plan.

Verse 16: “But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, LORD, who hath believed our report?”

Paul acknowledges the reality that though the Gospel is preached, not everyone receives it. He references Isaiah, reflecting the rejection faced by GOD’S messengers and His message.

Verse 17: “So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of GOD.”

Here is a foundational truth: faith arises from hearing GOD’S marvelous righteous word. This reinforces the critical role of Scripture and preaching in cultivating faith.

Verse 18: “But I say, Have they not heard? Yes verily, their sound went into all the earth, and their words unto the ends of the world.”

Paul argues that the message has indeed been proclaimed widely, indicating that the problem lies not in the availability of the Gospel but in the rejection of it.

Verse 19: “But I say, Did not Israel know? First Moses saith, I will provoke you to jealousy by them that are no people, and by a foolish nation I will anger you.”

Paul asserts that Israel had the opportunity to know GOD’S truth. Here, he prophesies that GOD’S blessing will extend to the Gentiles, provoking Israel to reconsider their stance.

Verse 20: “But Esaias is very bold, and saith, I was found of them that sought me not; I was made manifest unto them that asked not after me.”

Paul highlights GOD’S grace in revealing Himself to those who were previously outside His covenant (the Gentiles). This shows GOD’S initiative in calling people to Himself.

Verse 21: “But to Israel he saith, All day long I have stretched forth my hands unto a disobedient and gainsaying people.”

The chapter concludes with GOD’S lament over Israel’s persistent disobedience. Despite His constant outreach, they have rejected Him, showcasing His heart for His people.

Let summarize Romans Chapter 10:

In “Romans 10:1-21“, Paul expresses a passionate desire for the salvation of Israel while emphasizing that genuine faith comes through hearing the message of CHRIST. He stresses the transition from the Law to faith in CHRIST as the means of righteousness. Paul highlights the necessity of evangelism, noting that the Gospel has been widely proclaimed but not all have received it. He affirms that salvation is available to everyone, regardless of their background, and concludes with GOD’S longing for His people to turn to Him.
