Revelation Chapter 5

Welcome to a new Bible Study of Revelation, Chapter 5:

Let’s reason and take an inspiring verse by verse look at “Revelation 5:1-14“, followed with a Summary and Prayer.

Vers 1: “And I saw in the right hand of him that sat on the throne a book written within and on the backside, sealed with seven seals.”

The scene is set in the heavenly throne room. The scroll in GOD’S right hand symbolizes His divine authority and plan for human history. The seven seals signify completeness and the fullness of GOD’S revelation and secrets.

Vers 2: “And I saw a strong angel proclaiming with a loud voice, Who is worthy to open the book, and to loose the seals thereof?”

The strong angel’s loud proclamation indicates the importance of finding someone worthy. It highlights the tension between GOD’S holiness and the unworthiness of all creation to access His plans.

Vers 3: “And no man in heaven, nor in earth, neither under the earth, was able to open the book, neither to look thereon.”

The inability of anyone to open the scroll reinforces the gravity of the situation. It underlines humanity’s fallen state and the impossibility of comprehending GOD’S plan without someone worthy.

Vers 4: “And I wept much, because no man was found worthy to open and to read the book, neither to look thereon.”

John’s deep sorrow reflects the despair of the human condition longing for redemption and understanding, yet encountering the stark reality of unworthiness.

Vers 5: “And one of the elders saith unto me, Weep not: behold, the Lion of the tribe of Juda, the Root of David, hath prevailed to open the book, and to loose the seven seals thereof.”

The elder comforts John by revealing JESUS as the worthy one, the Lion of Judah. This title emphasizes JESUS’ royalty, power, and lineage, fulfilling the prophetic destiny of the Messiah.

Vers 6: “And I beheld, and, lo, in the midst of the throne and of the four beasts, and in the midst of the elders, stood a Lamb as it had been slain, having seven horns and seven eyes, which are the seven Spirits of GOD sent forth into all the earth.”

Here, we see the paradox of strength in weakness. The Lamb represents sacrificial love and victory through His death. The seven horns and eyes symbolize omnipotence and omniscience, affirming CHRIST’S divine authority.

Vers 7: “And he came and took the book out of the right hand of him that sat upon the throne.”

The act of taking the scroll symbolizes JESUS’ authority to enact GOD’S divine plan for humanity. It marks the transition from mourning to hope, from despair to understanding.

Vers 8: “And when he had taken the book, the four beasts and four and twenty elders fell down before the Lamb, having every one of them harps, and golden vials full of odours, which are the prayers of saints.”

The worship in response to the Lamb’s worthiness showcases the beauty of collective praise. The golden vials signify the significance of the prayers of the saints in GOD’S redemptive plan.

Vers 9: “And they sung a new song, saying, Thou art worthy to take the book, and to open the seals thereof: for thou wast slain, and hast redeemed us to GOD by thy blood out of every kindred, and tongue, and people, and nation.”

The “new song” celebrates redemption through CHRIST’S sacrifice. It illustrates the inclusivity of the Gospel, reaching every nation and people, underscoring GOD’S heart for diversity in His Kingdom.

Vers 10: “And hast made us unto our GOD kings and priests: and we shall reign on the earth.”

This verse highlights the transformative impact of redemption. The redeemed are granted royal and priestly status, indicating their future roles in GOD’S Kingdom.

Vers 11: “And I beheld, and I heard the voice of many angels round about the throne and the beasts and the elders: and the number of them was ten thousand times ten thousand, and thousands of thousands;”

The multiplication of angels illustrates the vastness of GOD’S creation and worship. It serves as a testament to the heavenly celebration of CHRIST’S victory.

Vers 12: “Saying with a loud voice, Worthy is the Lamb that was slain to receive power, and riches, and wisdom, and strength, and honour, and glory, and blessing.”

This declaration emphasizes the Lamb’s worthiness and the attributes He possesses power, wisdom, and honor culminating in ultimate glory and blessing.

Vers 13:  “And every creature which is in heaven, and on the earth, and under the earth, and such as are in the sea, and all that are in them, heard I saying, Blessing, and honour, and glory, and power, be unto him that sitteth upon the throne, and unto the Lamb for ever and ever.”

The universal acknowledgment of CHRIST’S supremacy signifies His reign over all creation. Every part of creation joins in worship, pointing to the comprehensive scope of His redemption.

Vers 14: “And the four beasts said, Amen. And the four and twenty elders fell down and worshipped him that liveth for ever and ever.”

The conclusion of this passage reveals the response to GOD’S glory an affirmation of worship. The eternal nature of GOD is celebrated, reinforcing His sovereignty and majesty.

Let’s Summarise Revelation, Chapter 5:

“Revelation 5:1-14” presents a powerful scene in heaven where no one is found worthy to open the scroll of GOD’S divine plan, leading to deep sorrow. However, JESUS, referred to as the Lion of Judah and the Lamb who was slain, emerges as the only one worthy of this task due to His sacrificial death and redemptive power. The ensuing worship from all of creation highlights the true significance of CHRIST in GOD’S divine plan and the hope given to humanity through Him. This passage beautifully portrays the themes of worthiness, redemption, and the ultimate authority of CHRIST.

Let us Pray:

Dear LORD, almighty
