Welcome to a new Bible Study of “Matthew 5:39“:
Let’s reason and take an inspiring verse by verse look at “Matthew 5:39“, followed with a Summary and Prayer.
“But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.” (Matthew 5:39)
In this true powerful verse from the Sermon on the Mount, JESUS teaches us about the revolutionary nature of love and forgiveness. When faced with wrongdoing, our instinctive response often leans toward retaliation or defense. However, JESUS invites us to flip that instinct on its head.
By saying, “resist not evil,” JESUS shifts the focus from the common human desire for justice to the higher call of grace. Turning the other cheek is not merely about accepting hurt; it’s about demonstrating a strength that comes from an inner peace and an unwavering commitment to love. In a world filled with anger, vengeance, and escalating conflicts, such a response seems counterintuitive but reflects the heart of GOD.
JESUS embodies this principle perfectly. On the cross, He didn’t retaliate against those who persecuted Him. Instead, He uttered the words, “Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do” (Luke 23:34). His example teaches us that responding to evil with good not only reflects the character of CHRIST but also serves as a testament to a transformation that is possible in our hearts.
This passage challenges us to reconsider our responses to personal offenses and injustices. It calls for an active form of love one that is willing to absorb wrongs rather than retaliate. In doing so, we break the cycle of hate and infuse the world with the true light of CHRIST.
Let’s summarize Matthew 5:39:
“MATTHEW 5:39” challenges us to respond to evil not with resistance but with an true open heart, willing to forgive and love unconditionally. By turning the other cheek, we fulfill the true of CHRIST, breaking the cycle of vengeance and demonstrating that true strength lies in love and grace.
Let us pray:
Dear LORD, almighty HEAVENLY FATHER, We thank You for the example of Your beloved dear Son JESUS CHRIST, who showed us the power of love over hate. Help us to embrace the spirit of non-resistance, allowing us to respond to wrongs with compassion and grace. Teach us to turn the other cheek and to embody the infinite love of CHRIST in a world that often fosters conflict. May our actions inspire others to seek peace and kindness. We ask for Your strength and the right discernment to live out this challenging teaching, transforming our hearts and our responses.
Thank you dear LORD, almighty HEAVENLY FATHER. we pray this throughout the mighty, glorious, fulfilling name of JESUS CHRIST. Amen!
Much LoVe, JoY, Peace and Blessings to You, through JESUS CHRIST, our almighty dear LORD, SAVIOUR and REDEEMER!
