Welcome to a new Bible Study of “Amos 9:11–13”
Let’s reason and take an inspiring verse by verse look, at the Bible study references below, followed with a summary, and uplifting Prayer, before GOD’s Holy throne-room!
Verse 11: “In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old.”
(Amos 9:11)
This verse speaks of a future restoration of the Davidic kingdom. The “tabernacle of David” refers to the dynasty of King David, which had fallen into ruin due to the sins of the people and the division of the kingdom. GOD promises to restore this dynasty, closing up the breaches and rebuilding it to its former glory. This restoration is a sign of GOD’s faithfulness to His promises and His desire to bring His people back to Him.
Verse 12: “That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this.”
(Amos 9:12)
The “remnant of Edom” and “all the heathen” refer to the nations that will be subject to the restored Davidic kingdom. This verse indicates that the restoration of Israel will not only benefit the Israelites but will also extend GOD’s rule and influence over other nations. The phrase “which are called by my name” suggests that these nations will acknowledge and worship the GOD of Israel. This is a prophecy of the universal reign of GOD’s kingdom.
Verse 13: “Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that the plowman shall overtake the reaper, and the treader of grapes him that soweth seed; and the mountains shall drop sweet wine, and all the hills shall flow with it.”
(Amos 9:13)
This verse uses agricultural imagery to describe a time of great abundance and prosperity. The plowman overtaking the reaper and the treader of grapes overtaking the sower indicates a continuous cycle of harvest, with no end to the bounty. The mountains and hills flowing with sweet wine symbolize an overflowing of blessings. This prosperity is a result of God’s restoration and blessing upon His people.
