The True Ekklesia

Welcome to a new Bible Study of “The True Ekklesia”

Let’s reason and take an inspiring verse by verse look, at the Bible study references below, followed with a summary, and uplifting Prayer, before GOD’s Holy throne-room!

The word Ekklesia (ἐκκλησία) translated “church” in the King James Bible does not mean a building, a denomination, or a religious institution. It is a Greek word meaning “the called out ones,” an assembly of people sovereignly summoned by GOD out of the world, and into His Kingdom. In this study we are going to examine what the true Ekklesia is, along its divine purpose, and the glorious transformation it is destined to bring upon the earth.

The Foundation – CHRIST Builds His Ekklesia:

“And I say also unto thee, That thou art Peter, and upon this rock I will build my church; and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.”
(Matthew 16:18)

The Greek declares: oikodomēsō mou tēn ekklēsian “I will build MY called out assembly.” Notice CHRIST says “my church” it belongs to Him alone, not to any man, institution, or earthly hierarchy. The rock upon which it is built is not Peter himself, but the confession Peter just made: “Thou art the CHRIST, the Son of the living GOD” (v.16). The Ekklesia is built upon the revelation of who JESUS CHRIST truly is.

Key Truth:

The true Ekklesia is CHRIST’s Possession, built on CHRIST’s identity, and no force, not death itself can stop its advance.

“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is JESUS CHRISt.”
(1 Corinthians 3:11)

Every assembly, ministry, and movement that does not center on the living person of JESUS CHRIST is building on sand. The Ekklesia has one and only one foundation. All tradition, liturgy, and structure must be subordinate to GOD.

Called Out of the World – Separation & Identity:

“If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you.”(John 15:19)

The essence of Ekklesia is being called out. JESUS chose His people out of the world’s system out of its values, its pride, its corruption, its empty religion. The hostility the true church faces is not incidental; it is evidence of its calling. If the world applauds a church without reservation, that church should ask whether it has truly been called out.

“Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the LORD, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.”
(2 Corinthians 6:17)

GOD’S call to separation is not a call to cultural isolation or harsh judgmentalism it is a call to holy distinction. The Ekklesia must refuse to be shaped by worldly philosophies, political allegiances, or cultural compromise. Its transformation must come from the renewing of the mind (Romans 12:2), not conformity to the age.

“But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of Him who hath called you out of darkness into His marvellous light.”
(1 Peter 2:9)

Four breathtaking titles define the Ekklesia’s identity: chosen generation (elected by GOD), royal priesthood (access to GOD and intercession for others), holy nation (a distinct people under GOD’S governance), peculiar people (literally: “a people for a possession” GOD’S own treasured property). The purpose? To show forth His praises, to make His glory visible in this earth.

The Body of CHRIST – Unity in Diversity:

“And hath put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church, which is His body, the fulness of Him that filleth all in all.”(Ephesians 1:22–23)

The Ekklesia is not merely an organization it is an organism. It is the very Body of CHRIST, through which He continues to act in the earth. CHRIST is the Head; the church is His instrument of fullness. CHRIST is the church and we need to express and demonstrate that. This truth shatters the idea of a passive, pew-sitting “churchianity.”

“Now ye are the body of CHRIST, and members in particular. And GOD hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.”
(1 Corinthians 12:27–28)

The five-fold ministry EPHESIANS 4:11 adds evangelists and pastors) is GOD’S design for the Ekklesia, a living, functioning body of gifts and callings working together. When apostles are dismissed, prophets silenced, and the miraculous denied, the church operates as a maimed body. True Ekklesia restores every gift GOD placed within it.

The Kingdom Commission – Salt and Light:

“Ye are the salt of the earth… Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid.”(Matthew 5:13–14)

Salt preserves and prevents corruption. Light exposes and illuminates. JESUS did not say the Ekklesia should try to be these things, He declared it is these things. The true church does not merely wait for heaven while the world decays. It arrests decay through righteous influence and dispels darkness through the proclamation of truth. A church that retreats from culture abandons its commission.

“All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you.” (Matthew 28:18–20)

The Great Commission is not merely to win individual souls into a personal salvation bubble it is to disciple nations. The Greek mathēteusate panta ta ethnē means to make disciples of every ethnic group and people. This is a world transforming mandate. The Ekklesia is sent as CHRIST was sent (John 20:21) with authority, with purpose, and with the promise of His abiding presence.

The Kingdom of GOD – Changing the World,:

“And in the days of these kings shall the GOD of heaven set up a kingdom, which shall never be destroyed: and the kingdom shall not be left to other people, but it shall break in pieces and consume all these kingdoms, and it shall stand for ever.“(Daniel 2:44)

Daniel prophesied a stone cut without hands the Kingdom of GOD  that would crush every earthly kingdom and fill the whole earth (v.35). This is not merely a future millennial event; it is a present reality advancing. The Ekklesia is the instrument by which the Kingdom of GOD presses into every sphere of human society: government, family, arts, education, economics, and justice.

“Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever.”(Isaiah 9:7)

The government of CHRIST has no ceiling on its increase. This is an ever expanding Kingdom. As the Ekklesia walks in obedience, intercession, and bold witness, it extends the reign of CHRIST across the earth. The world will change not by political power, but by the transforming power of the Gospel working through a Holy Spirit filled people.

“For the earth shall be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD, as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2:14)

This is GOD’S ultimate intention for creation. Not a world consumed by darkness at the end, but a world saturated with His fulfilling glory. The Ekklesia is the vanguard of this. Every act of healing, every deed of justice, every proclamation of the Gospel, every transformed life is a drop of that glory that is filling this earth.

The Overcoming Church – Gates of Hell Shall Not Prevail:

“And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb, and by the word of their testimony; and they loved not their lives unto the death.”(Revelation 12:11)

The Ekklesia overcomes not by political might, not by wealth, not by cultural popularity, but by three weapons: the blood of the Lamb (justification and redemption), the Word of testimony (bold declaration of what CHRIST has done), and radical surrender (loving not one’s life unto death). A church unwilling to suffer is a church unwilling to overcome.

“Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.”(Romans 8:37)

Hypernikōmen”super-conquerors.” Not barely surviving, not holding on until the untrue of rapture, but overwhelmingly victorious. The true Ekklesia does not view tribulation as defeat but as the very arena in which CHRIST’S victory is demonstrated through His chosen people.

“To the intent that now unto the principalities and powers in heavenly places might be known by the church the manifold wisdom of GOD.”
(Ephesians 3:10)

The angels and even demonic powers watch the Ekklesia. Through the church, GOD is making great declaration of His wisdom. Every redeemed sinner, every healed body, every delivered captive is a sermon preached to the unseen realm. The true church is a fulfilling demonstration of GOD’s glory.

Revival & Restoration – The Latter Rain:

“And it shall come to pass afterward, that I will pour out my spirit upon all flesh; and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, your old men shall dream dreams, your young men shall see visions: And also upon the servants and upon the handmaids in those days will I pour out my spirit.” (Joel 2:28–29)

Quoted by Peter at Pentecost (Acts 2:17), this prophecy was not exhausted in the first century. The phrase “all flesh” signals a global, all encompassing outpouring still unfolding. GOD is raising up a generation of prophesying sons and daughters, Spirit filled servants, dreamers and seers who will carry the glory of GOD into every corner of the earth.

“Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the LORD. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. Be ye also patient; stablish your hearts: for the coming of the LORD draweth nigh.”(James 5:7–8)

The early rain (Pentecost) planted the church. The latter rain (an end-time outpouring) will bring in the final great harvest of souls. GOD is preparing His Ekklesia for this hour, not a weak, compromised church, but a glorious, Spirit-saturated, world-transforming Bride.

“That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be Holy and without blemish.”
(Ephesians 5:27)

This is the destiny of the Ekklesia, glorious. Not ashamed, not defeated, not confused but radiant in holiness and power. CHRIST is coming for a Bride who has made herself ready (Revelation 19:7). The changes coming to this world are not apart from the church they are through the church as it rises into His true calling.

Let’s Summarise this Bible Study together on The True Ekklesia:

The true Ekklesia is not a Sunday institution or a cultural heritage it is a living, breathing, world changing assembly of called out people who bear the very true name and nature of JESUS CHRIST in the earth. Built upon the revelation of CHRIST alone, it has no other foundation. It is His Body, His instrument, His treasure, and His witness. The Ekklesia has been given a mandate that spans every nation: to disciple, to demonstrate, and to declare the Kingdom of GOD. It does not run from the world  it transforms it. Salt does not hide from what is rotting; light does not flee from darkness. The true church presses into the darkness with the authority of the risen CHRIST.

The world is going to change. GOD’S glorious Kingdom has no ceiling on its increase. Empires fall, philosophies crumble, and ideologies fade, but the glorious fulfilling Kingdom of GOD stands forever. The earth is to be filled with His glory as the waters cover the sea. Revival is coming. The latter rain is falling. A generation of prophets, healers, apostles, and witnesses is being raised.

But change does not come without a price. The Ekklesia that changes the world is one that first surrenders to GOD, a people who love not their lives unto death, who overcome by the blood of the Lamb and the word of their testimony, who are holy, unified, bold, and Spirit filled. This is who we are called to be. This is the hour we are called to rise.

Let’s humble ourselves and lift our prayers before GOD’s throne-room:

Dear LORD, almighty HEAVENLY FATHER, we come before You with hearts humbled and awakened by Your Word. You have not called us to comfort, You have called us to glory. Forgive us, LORD, for the times we have settled for religion when You offered relationship, for the times we have sought the approval of the world when You called us to be set apart. Dear LORD, almighty HEAVENLY FATHER’ build Your Ekklesia. Build it upon the unshakeable rock of Your identity and Your fulfilling truth. Raise up apostles and prophets, evangelists and teachers, pastors and intercessors who will not compromise, who will not retreat, and who will not be silent. Pour out Your Holy Spirit, almighty dear HEAVENLY FATHER, upon our sons and daughters, upon old and young, upon the forgotten and the overlooked. Let this latter rain fall with power. Let the knowledge of Your glory spread like floodwaters across every nation, culture, and generation. We declare with faith: Your Kingdom come, Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Let the earth tremble with Your goodness. Let the lost be found. Let the broken be healed. Let the darkness be driven back. And let Your glorious Ekklesia arise spotless, radiant, and ready for such a time as this. Thank You dear LORD almighty HEAVENLY FATHER. Hear our prayers throughout the mighty, glorious, fulfilling name, of JESUS CHRIST, AMEN!

Much LoVe, JoY, Peace and Blessings to You, through JESUS CHRIST, our almighty, fulfilling dear LORD, SAVIOUR and REDEEMER!
