Hi and Welcome to a new Bible Study of “TRUST, SURRENDER AND THE ARMOR OF GOD“
Let’s reason and take an inspiring verse by verse look, at the Bible study references below, followed with a summary, and uplifting prayer request, before GOD’s Holy throne-room!
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding.” (Proverbs 3:5)
PART I – GOD WORKS THINGS OUT ON OUR BEHALF:
One of the most comforting and liberating truths in all of Scripture is this: GOD is not passive in our lives. He is actively, sovereignly working on behalf of those who belong to Him. But here is a truth we must hold together: GOD does not work instead of us moving forward in faith. He works as we step out in trust and obedience. He does not call us to stand still in fear; He calls us to proceed with confidence, knowing His hand is upon us.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love GOD, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”
(Romans 8:28)
Notice the verse does not say some things, or good things. It says all things. Every experience. Every setback. Every season of patiently waiting. Every moment of confusion. GOD is the master weaver, and He uses every thread, even the dark ones, to create a tapestry of purpose and glory in the lives of those who love and truly believe in Him.
“For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, saith the LORD, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.”
(Jeremiah 29:11)
GOD’s thoughts toward us are intentional and purposeful. He has an expected end, a hope-filled destination, already prepared. This means we can step forward, even when we cannot see the full path, because the One who holds the path has already seen the end.
GOD cannot fully work on our behalf if we are paralyzed by fear and refuse to move. Faith requires forward motion. Step out and watch GOD show up.
“Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy GOD is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” (Joshua 1:9)
GOD commanded Joshua to proceed: to cross the Jordan, to face the enemies, to take the land. And as Joshua stepped forward in faith, GOD rolled back the waters, crumbled the walls of Jericho, and delivered victory after victory. GOD will do the same for us, but we must move.
PART II – BELIEVE AND TRUST HIM WITH ALL YOUR HEART:
Belief alone is not enough to release the fullness of GOD’s work in our lives. Scripture calls us to a wholehearted trust, not a divided heart that holds on to self-reliance with one hand while reaching for GOD with the other. GOD desires our full confidence, our complete reliance, our unreserved faith.
“Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge Him, and He shall direct thy paths.”
(Proverbs 3:5-6)
This is a covenant promise. When we trust with all our heart and acknowledge Him in all our ways, the promise is certain: He shall direct thy paths. Not might. Not possibly. He shall. There is divine certainty wrapped in wholehearted trust.
“But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to GOD must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them that diligently seek Him.”
(Hebrews 11:6)
Faith is not a feeling. It is a decision to believe what GOD says over what our circumstances show. It is choosing to trust His character when we cannot trace His hand. Every hero in Hebrews 11, ABRAHAM, MOSES, NOAH, RAHAB, proceeded with faith before they saw the promise. They trusted first, and GOD worked in response to their faith.
“Blessed is the man that trusteth in the LORD, and whose hope the LORD is. For he shall be as a tree planted by the waters, and that spreadeth out her roots by the river, and shall not see when heat cometh, but her leaf shall be green; and shall not be careful in the year of drought, neither shall cease from yielding fruit.”
(Jeremiah 17:7-8)
The man or woman who fully trusts GOD becomes like a tree rooted at the river’s edge, unmoved by drought, unmoved by heat, continuously fruitful. Storms will come. Droughts will come. But the deeply rooted believer shall not cease from yielding fruit.
When you trust GOD with all your heart, you release His power into every area of your life. Your trust becomes the channel through which GOD works.
PART III – COMPLETE SURRENDER, THE KEY THAT UNLOCKS EVERYTHING:
There is a profound difference between someone who believes in GOD and someone who has surrendered to GOD. Surrender is the act of releasing control, of saying, “Not my will, but Thine be done.” It is the highest expression of trust. And it is the place where GOD does His most magnificent work.
“I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of GOD, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto GOD, which is your reasonable service. And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of GOD.” (Romans 12:1-2)
Surrender means laying ourselves upon the altar, not as dead sacrifices, but as living ones. We remain on the altar, alive and active, fully available to GOD’s purposes. When we surrender completely, GOD transforms us from the inside out, renewing our minds, redirecting our desires, and aligning our will with His perfect will.
“I am crucified with CHRIST: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but CHRIST liveth in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of GOD, who loved me, and gave Himself for me.”
(Galatians 2:20)
This is the ultimate surrender, crucifying the self-driven life and allowing CHRIST to live fully through us. When CHRIST lives in us and through us, we are no longer relying on our own wisdom, strength, or strategy. We are running on divine power. This is not weakness. It is the greatest strength a human being can ever know.
“Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of GOD, that He may exalt you in due time: casting all your care upon Him; for he careth for you.”
(1 Peter 5:6-7)
Surrender is closely linked to humility. When we humble ourselves under GOD’s mighty hand, laying down pride, releasing control, trusting His timing, He promises to exalt us in due time. And we are invited to cast every anxiety, every burden, every worry upon Him, because He genuinely, tenderly cares for us.
“Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in Him; and He shall bring it to pass.”
(Psalm 37:5)
Full surrender is not giving up. It is giving over. You do not lose yourself when you surrender to GOD. You finally become who you were always meant to be.
PART IV – PUT ON THE WHOLE ARMOR OF GOD:
Trusting and surrendering to GOD does not remove us from spiritual warfare. It places us squarely in the center of it. As we step forward in faith, the enemy will resist. That is why GOD has not left us unprotected. He has clothed us in His own armor.
“Finally, my brethren, be strong in the LORD, and in the power of his might. Put on the whole armour of GOD, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” (Ephesians 6:10-12)
Paul commands us to put on the whole armor, not part of it. Each piece serves a vital purpose. Together they form an unbreakable covering for the believer who stands in faith:
1. THE BELT OF TRUTH:
The belt holds everything together. Truth is the foundation of every piece of armor. Without truth, we are easily deceived and manipulated.
“Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth…”
(Ephesians 6:14a)
2. THE BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS:
The breastplate covers the heart. Walking in righteousness, right standing with GOD through CHRIST, protects us from the enemy’s accusations and condemnation.
“…and having on the breastplate of righteousness.”
(Ephesians 6:14b)
3. THE SHOES OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE:
Our feet are shod with readiness, always prepared to carry and share the Gospel. Peace with GOD through CHRIST anchors our footing so we do not slip.
“And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace.”
(Ephesians 6:15)
4. THE SHIELD OF FAITH:
Faith is our primary defensive weapon. It extinguishes every fiery dart, every doubt, fear, accusation, and temptation that the enemy launches at us.
“Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.”
(Ephesians 6:16)
5. THE HELMET OF SALVATION:
The helmet protects the mind. Knowing and resting in our salvation guards our thoughts from the enemy’s attacks of doubt, hopelessness, and confusion.
“And take the helmet of salvation…”
(Ephesians 6:17a)
6. THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT, THE WORD OF GOD:
The only offensive weapon in our armor is the Word of GOD. This is how JESUS defeated satan in the wilderness. “It is written.” The Word spoken in faith defeats every lie and every stronghold.
“…and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of GOD.”
(Ephesians 6:17b)
7. PRAYER, THE POWER THAT ACTIVATES THE ARMOR:
Prayer is not listed as a piece of armor, but Paul immediately follows with the charge to pray, because prayer is what activates, sustains, and empowers the entire armor of GOD.
“Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints.”
(Ephesians 6:18)
Let’s Summarise this Bible Study together:
GOD works things out on our behalf, but He calls us to step forward in faith, not to stand still in fear. As we move, He moves on our behalf. (Joshua 1:9; Romans 8:28)
Wholehearted trust releases GOD’s power. When we trust Him with every area of our lives, not leaning on our own understanding, He promises to direct our paths. (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Complete surrender is the key that unlocks everything. Presenting ourselves as living sacrifices and crucifying the self-driven life allows CHRIST to live fully through us. (Romans 12:1-2; Galatians 2:20)
Surrender brings transformation. As we yield to GOD, He renews our minds, redirects our desires, and positions us to experience His perfect will for our lives.
We must put on the whole armor of GOD daily and intentionally. Every piece has a purpose, and together they equip us to stand firm against every spiritual attack. (Ephesians 6:10-18)
Prayer activates and empowers all of it. Trust, surrender, and armor are sustained through persistent, Spirit-led prayer. This is our lifeline to GOD’s strength.
The promise is certain: “He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.” (Psalm 91:1) Those who trust, surrender, and stand equipped will not be put to shame.
Let’s humble ourselves, and lift our prayer request before GOD’S throne-room:
Dear LORD, almighty HEAVENLY FATHER, we come before Your throne of grace with grateful and humble hearts. You are the LORD GOD Almighty, the One who was, and is, and is to come, and there is no one like You. You are faithful. You are good. Not our will, but Your divine will be done. Transform us, renew our minds, align our hearts with Yours, and let CHRIST live fully and freely through us. Dear LORD, almighty HEAVENLY FATHER’ as we go forth, clothe us in Your armor. Gird us with Your truth. Cover our hearts with the breastplate of righteousness. Fill our mouths with Your marvelous righteous Word, a sharp and mighty sword that defeats every lie and breaks every stronghold. We will not be moved. We will not be shaken. For greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world. We stand not in our own strength, but in the power of Your might, and in Your might, we are more than conquerors through CHRIST JESUS who loves us. Thank You dear LORD, almighty HEAVENLY FATHER, for the battles already won on our behalf. Thank You for the blood of Your only begotten, beloved dear Son, JESUS CHRIST’ that covers us. We pray this in the mighty, matchless, and victorious, glorious fulfilling Name of JESUS CHRIST’ AMEN!

This was such a rich and encouraging Bible study. The reminder that surrender is not weakness but trust in God’s strength gave me a lot to reflect on. Your point about faith requiring forward motion was also powerful. So often we wait for everything to make sense first, yet Scripture continually calls us to move forward trusting that God is already working on our behalf. Thank you for sharing such a Scripture-filled message of hope, perseverance, and spiritual readiness.
